Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

3/4 cup warm water

3 tablespoons olive oil, divided

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: a pinch of chili flakes for an extra kick

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Use a whisk or a fork to fully incorporate the ingredients. Gradually pour in the warm water and 1 tablespoon of olive oil while mixing with your hands or a wooden spoon. Continue to mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for approximately 5-7 minutes. The dough should become smooth and elastic. If the dough feels too sticky, add a bit more flour, a tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.

Rest the Dough: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm area for about 30 minutes. This resting period allows the gluten to relax, making the dough easier to roll out.

Prepare Garlic Butter: In a separate small bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil until well blended. Set this mixture aside for later use.

Roll Out the Flatbreads: After the dough has rested, divide it into four equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a thin circle or oval shape, aiming for a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Cook the Flatbreads: Heat a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Cook each flatbread for about 2-3 minutes on one side, or until it becomes golden brown and crispy. Flip the flatbread over, reduce the heat slightly, and brush the cooked side generously with the garlic butter mixture. Continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the garlic to crisp slightly and the flavor to permeate the flatbread.

Garnish and Serve: Once all flatbreads are cooked, drizzle with any remaining garlic butter. Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top and add a pinch of chili flakes if you enjoy a bit of heat. Serve the flatbreads warm, either on their own, or alongside your favorite dip, soup, or as a delicious accompaniment to any meal.
