Ingredients

1 cup rolled oats

2 cups milk (or non-dairy substitute)

1 medium apple, cored and chopped

1 tablespoon brown sugar (or maple syrup)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon butter (or coconut oil for a non-dairy option)

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fresh apple slices and extra cinnamon for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a medium skillet, heat the butter over medium heat until melted.

Add the chopped apple to the skillet and sauté for approximately 3-4 minutes, or until they begin to soften.

Stir in the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well and continue cooking for an additional minute until the apples are well-coated and aromatic.

Introduce the rolled oats into the skillet and combine them with the apple mixture.

Pour in the milk and vanilla extract, allowing the mixture to come to a gentle simmer.

Lower the heat and cook for around 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are creamy and most of the liquid has been absorbed.

If you like, incorporate the chopped walnuts or pecans for added texture and flavor.

Serve warm, garnished with fresh apple slices and a dusting of cinnamon if desired.
