Ingredients

2 cups penne pasta

2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works wonderfully)

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it's hot and ready for baking.

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring ample salted water to a vigorous boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to the package instructions until it reaches al dente, which usually takes about 9-11 minutes. Once done, drain the pasta and set it aside to cool slightly.

Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a spacious mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken with marinara sauce, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if you want a bit of spice). Season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir everything together until the ingredients are well distributed.

Combine with Pasta: Carefully add the cooked penne pasta to the chicken mixture. Using a large spoon or spatula, stir gently to ensure that every piece of pasta is evenly coated with the flavorful sauce.

Incorporate Cheeses: In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and grated Parmesan cheese until they are seamlessly blended. Gently fold this creamy cheese mixture into the pasta and chicken mixture, making sure to distribute it evenly throughout.

Assemble the Bake: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking. Transfer half of the pasta mixture into the dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over this layer. Add the remaining pasta mixture on top, followed by a generous layer of the remaining mozzarella cheese.

Bake to Perfection: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 20 minutes, then carefully remove the foil to allow the cheese to brown. Continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the top is a beautiful golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked to perfection, remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving. For a pop of freshness, garnish each serving with a few fresh basil leaves.

                  Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes | Servings: 6

                    - Presentation Tips: Serve the pasta bake hot from the oven in individual portions on plates, drizzled with extra marinara sauce if desired, and sprinkle more fresh basil for an attractive touch!
