Ingredients

1 pound of ground beef (or ground turkey)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped

1 teaspoon dried Italian oregano

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

8 small sub rolls or slider buns

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

In a sizable mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir until everything is well incorporated.

Shape the mixture into small meatballs, roughly 1 inch in diameter. Aim for about 20-24 meatballs.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once heated, add the meatballs in a single layer, cooking for approximately 6-8 minutes, turning them occasionally until they are browned on every side.

Pour the marinara sauce over the browned meatballs and let them simmer for an extra 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend together.

While the meatballs are simmering, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Cut the sub rolls or slider buns in half and arrange them on a baking sheet. Place a few meatballs on the bottom half of each roll, ensuring that some sauce is included.

Top each meatball sub with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Bake in the heated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and is bubbling.

Take them out of the oven and add fresh basil leaves for garnish if you wish. Serve hot and enjoy!
