Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) of firm or extra-firm tofu

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon ginger, minced

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Press the Tofu: To start, wrap your block of tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place it on a flat surface. Set a heavy object (such as a cast-iron skillet or a few canned goods) on top. Allow it to press for 15-20 minutes, which will help remove excess moisture for a wonderfully crispy texture.

Cube the Tofu: Once the tofu is pressed, carefully unwrap it and slice it into 1-inch cubes. Transfer these cubes into a large mixing bowl.

Prepare the Marinade: In a separate bowl, combine the soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Whisk the ingredients together until well blended.

Marinate the Tofu: Pour the marinade over the tofu cubes in the mixing bowl. Gently toss the tofu with your hands or a spatula until every piece is evenly coated. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 15 minutes. For an even deeper flavor, marinate in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours.

Coat with Cornstarch: After marinating, sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu cubes. Toss gently but thoroughly to ensure each piece is well coated. This step is essential for achieving that irresistible crispy exterior.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for approximately 5 minutes, allowing it to reach the ideal cooking temperature.

Air Fry the Tofu: Once preheated, arrange the marinated tofu cubes in a single layer within the air fryer basket. If your air fryer is smaller, you may need to cook them in batches. Air fry for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to promote even cooking and browning.

Add Sesame Seeds: If you enjoy sesame flavor and crunch, sprinkle the tofu cubes with sesame seeds during the last 3 minutes of cooking to allow them to toast perfectly.

Serve: When the cooking time is complete, carefully remove the tofu from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions for a burst of color and freshness. Serve hot as a delicious appetizer, snack, or over a bed of rice or salad for a wholesome meal.
